King Power Foundation

King Power is fundamentally committed to the concept of giving back to society via a contribution of our annual profits.

The cornerstone of our efforts is the King Power Foundation, established two years ago. This highly-successful charitable fund was conceived to support the neediest in the community. Each year King Power donates a portion of its annual net profits to fund the Foundation.

As Thailand is a Buddhist country, the Foundation has contributed significant sums to fund various upcountry temples. Among upcountry communities, Thai temples are important centers for social gatherings, education and spiritual guidance. The Foundation has also contributed funds to suburban temples on a quarterly basis.

Various social causes nurtured by the Foundation include sports-related programmes (for example, tennis competitions for the disabled and golf, football and other sports competitions for students in Bangkok’s suburban areas). In particular, King Power has contributed heavily toward sports for the disabled, a very limited but much-needed activity in Thailand.

In the field of education, the Foundation has sponsored 999 individual scholarships of Baht 10,000 each (totaling Baht 10 million) for the continued education of young students. Other contributions have included funding given to suburban schools for meals, scholarships, educational equipments, books and other projects.

The Foundation also participated in the Worldwide Life Foundation (WWF) three years ago. The objective of the contribution was to assist in the reforestation of northern Thailand. Such environment conservation programmes will help communities in understanding the vital role played by forest preservation, particularly in the future prevention of potential mud slides during the monsoon season.

In November 2005, the Foundation introduced one of its most important initiatives to date – a wrist band with a designated theme ‘We love the King’. One million wrist bands were sold within a few day, raising Baht 100 million which was in turn donated to the King for ongoing charitable work.

Due to the demand for and popularity of this project, the Foundation has reinitiated the wrist band concept and aims to raise approximately Baht 1 billion by December 2006. All funds raised will be donated to the King prior to his birthday on December 5, 2006, a date that also marks His Majesty’s 60th anniversary on the throne. This donation will be denoted as a ‘National Project’ for the Foundation.
